The Decemberists announce ‘Florasongs’ EP and share new track – listen

'Why Would I Now?' will open 'Florasongs', an EP out on October 9

The Decemberists have announced a new EP entitled ‘Florasongs’, which will be released on October 9, as well as unveiling the first track from it, ‘Why Would I Now?’

The Portland quintet only released their seventh and latest album ‘What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World’ back in January, scoring their highest UK chart entry at number 13.

This follow-up EP will feature five tracks, with ‘Why Would I Now?’ as the opener, and coincides with a short American tour.

Talking to The Guardian following the release and US number one success of ‘What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World’, frontman Colin Meloy said:

“At some point, you have to step away from it to make sure you’re not just on the sort of conveyor belt where you get into that record-promote-tour cycle and lose track of why you’re doing it. Having a family and a mortgage and people who rely on you for an income is a weird thing and has affected me personally.”

“I’m thinking: ‘OK, I have a fanbase who are expecting things, I have critics who I think about more than I should, I have peers I’m looking at …’”

The EP is available to preorder now via The Decemberists website. Listen to the track via YouTube, below:
