THE DOORS are to release a plethora of live material and rarities via their official website, [url=]www.thedoors.com.
The three surviving members of the band, Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore, have launched their own website label, Bright Midnight Records. On the label they intend to make available almost 30 hours of unreleased material.
Already available on the website is a recording of a live performance at Detroit’s Cobo Arena and the ‘Bright Midnight Sampler’, which features 14 tracks from selected live shows throughout the ’70s.
The archive material is said to have surfaced while the band were compiling material for the previously released Doors box set.
Speaking about the new material, The Doors manager Danny Sugerman told Rolling Stone: “There’s some good material on there, there’s some great material on there, there’s some sloppy material on there, there’s some fun material on there. There’s some very drunk material on there.
“In Boston, Jim (Morrison) was pretty drunk and feeling good and letting everybody know. It’s fun to let people see that side of Jim. He wasn’t this sadistic, insane, angry drunk. He was having a good time and wanted people to have a good time with him. It’s a fascinating glimpse of Jim.”
