A new EP and a possible Christmas single is planned...

Flaming Lips have gone back into the studio to work on a new EP and potential Christmas single.

The band have visited regular producer Dave Fridmann’s studios in upstate New York to work on some new tracks, according to a posting on the band’s official website [url=]flaminglips.com.

The posting reads: “The band are currently paying a quick visit to Tarbox Road [studios], recording (probably) 3 songs with Dave Fridmann as well as doing some production on remixes.” The statement reads, “When they arrived, the plan was to record two >Peachessongs connected with the Pink Robots theme, as well as a Christmas-type song of some description.

“These new songs are intended for a US EP to be released later in the year (possibly in November) and can reasonably be expected to turn up on a UK release at some point.”

The statement adds: “The current plans for the US EP are that the lead track will be ‘Ego Tripping’ and the disc will be double-sided, with a DVD on one side and a CD on the other. If plans stay the same as at present (they rarely do!), the DVD side will contain live footage, while the CD will contain the lead track, the three new songs, and some remixes (including one by[a][/a]).”

As previously reported on NME.COM, the band will be touring the US West Coast with Red Hot Chili Peppers next month before returning to the UK this winter.
