The Flaming Lips cover The Beatles’ ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ on ‘Letterman’ – watch

The band were joined by Sean Lennon for the performance

The Flaming Lips joined forces with John Lennon’s son, Sean Lennon, last night (February 6) to perform their cover of The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ on The Late Show With David Letterman.

Click above to watch the typically psychedelic performance, which followed Beatles songs from Broken Bells and Sting on the US chat show earlier in the week, as part of the show’s weeklong tribute to the Fab Four, and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic band’s first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Broken Bells performed ‘And I Love Her’ and Sting played ‘Drive My Car’.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr recently reunited on stage at a recording of The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles. The show was recorded on January 27, one day after this year’s Grammy Awards, and will be aired on US television on February 9, exactly 50 years after the Beatles made their US television debut.

Dave Grohl, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran were among the artists who performed live on the night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with reports that Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges, Eric Idle, Johnny Depp, Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon were in attendance.
