The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne to release comic book

Singer will launch 'The Sun Is Sick' at Comic-Con in San Diego

The Flaming Lips‘ frontman Wayne Coyne has written a comic book, which he will release this week.

According to Billboard, the singer’s title, The Sun Is Sick, is being launched at Comic-Con this week in San Diego, and it will then be made available online via the band’s official website.

Although there is little information about the plot of the 40-page graphic novel so far, a statement from the band has suggested that it will not be for the faint-hearted. “[It] may be a comic book but make no mistake; this is not suitable for children and depending on what sort of person you are, it may not be suitable for some of you non-children either,” it read. “If you have doubts at this moment then The Sun Is Sick is not for you.”

It was revealed earlier this month that Coyne will appear on Moby’s new album. The record, entitled ‘Innocents’, will be the solo star’s 11th studio album and will be released via his own label Little Idiot on October 1. Coyne – who provides vocals for the track ‘The Perfect Life’ – is just one of a host of special guests, which also includes Mark Lanegan and Damien Jurado, amongst others.

In April of this year, meanwhile, Coyne said that he and his bandmates were working on a full album with pop star Ke$ha. The unlikely collaborators have worked together before, both on Flaming Lips material and on Ke$ha’s 2012 album ‘Warrior’, but a joint album would mark the first time they have worked on anything full-length together.
