Wayne Coyne also pays tribute to Snoop Dogg
The American band, who last played the event in 2003, played a spectacular show on the Other Stage that saw them feature their usual cast of supporters dressed in animal costumes dancing either side of the band onstage.
Singer Wayne Coyne surfed over the crowd in a plastic bubble at the start of the show, and also encouraged the crowd to blow pot smoke at the band, referencing Pyramid Stage performer Snoop Dogg‘s earlier onstage endorsement of marijuana.
Coyne performed ‘Silver Trembling Hands’ on the shoulders of a person in a gorilla costume, and later encouraged the crowd to make peace signs before playing ‘The WAND’, during which green lasers shot out from the stage over the crowd.
He also introduced 2006 single ‘The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song’ by explaining it was written in protest at the policies of former US President George W Bush, the mention of whose name provoked booing from the crowd.
The group then closed their set with an extended, singalong version of 2002 single ‘Do You Realize??’.
The Flaming Lips played:
‘Silver Trembling Hands’
‘She Don’t Use Jelly’
‘The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song’
‘I Can Be A Frog’
‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (Pt 1)’
‘See The Leaves’
‘Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung’
‘Do You Realize??’
