Grateful Dead items up for sale

They are literally flogging Jerry Garcia's kitchen sink

The Grateful Dead star Jerry Garcia‘s kitchen sink is to to up for auction as part of a sale of the remaining contents of his former home.

David Koltys – who bought the house in 1997 – sold the toilet and other fixtures last year.

The final clearout will also include a whirlpool and stereo speakers to be sold on eBay from August 12-19, reports the BBC.

Garcia died of a heart attack in 1995, aged 53, while staying in a drug treatment centre.

After Koltys bought the house in Marin County, California from the musician’s estate he put the fixtures in storage before renovating and reselling it.

The toilet was sold for £1,232 ($2,500). As with the first sale, proceeds from this latest auction are set to go towards the Sophia Foundation charity.

Earlier this year an auction of memorabilia from The Grateful Dead made more than £542, 000 ($1.1 million).

A cream 1975 Travis Bean electric guitar, which belonged to Garcia, sold for £154,000 ($312,000).

One of Garcia’s guitar straps made £10,000 ($20,4000), and fans also bought art work and instrument accessories.

The collection was owned by the band’s former road manager Lawrence Shurtliff, who died last year.
