The Horrors to play NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas

Band also unveil new song 'I See You' earlier this evening (February 24)

The Horrors will perform at the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas.

The ceremony takes place this week (February 26) at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, and will be hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenter and NME columnist Huw Stephens. Drenge, Metronomy and Godlike Geniuses Blondie are also all set to perform live. Paul McCartney will also attend to collect the special, one-off honour of NME’s Songwriter’s Songwriter, while Damon Albarn will collect the brand new NME Award For Innovation.

Earlier this evening (February 24), meanwhile, The Horrors unveiled their new track ‘I See You’. The song, which was debuted on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and can be listened to below, is the first to be taken from the band’s new album ‘Luminous’. The group’s fourth LP will be released on May 5, and they reveal all about the album to NME in this week’s magazine, available on newsstands and digitally from Wednesday (February 26).

Speaking about the title of the album, which is the band’s first since they released ‘Skying’ in 2011, frontman Faris Badwan says: “It’s a powerful image: giving off light and releasing energy. It sums up a lot of the ways we make music. One thing that’s always been central to the band is that we’ve kept the same level of intensity since the beginning.”

Moving on to the sound of ‘Luminous’, Badwan continues: “This is the album I’ve been most excited about releasing. I think it would be misleading to say it’s got more guitars or more synths, because half the time the guitars sound like synths anyway. Is it fair to say there’s more of everything.”

The NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas will be streamed live for the first time in its history on February 26. Fans will be able to watch all the action from 8PM at www.nme.com/awards.

Arctic Monkeys lead the nominations this year with eight in total. Haim follow closely with six nominations while Queens of The Stone Age, Lily Allen and Arcade Fire all have three. Voting has now closed.
