The Killers close Leeds Festival 2008

Brandon Flowers compliments fans' 'beautiful eyes'

The Killers brought the curtain down on this year’s Leeds Festival with a headline set on the Main Stage tonight (August 24).

The Las Vegas band again included a new song – ‘Spaceman’ – in their set, which was the same as last night’s headlining set at Reading Festival.

Kicking off with ‘For Reasons Unknown’, singer Brandon Flowers – who took the stage in a garish green jacket – complimented the good looks of the crowd.

“You have beautiful eyes and beautiful voices Leeds. Let’s keep it going,” he said, before launching into a raucous version of the 2006 single ‘Somebody Told Me’.

The band then played Joy Division cover ‘Shadowplay’, the song they contributed to the soundtrack for the 2007 film ‘Control’.

The slick show again relied heavily on tracks from B-sides and rarities album ‘Sawdust’, with tracks ‘Tranquilize’ and ‘Under The Gun’ among those included in the set.

During ‘When You Were Young’, gold fireworks rained down from the roof of the stage, while later in the set fan favourites ‘Mr Brightside’ and ‘Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine’ sparked wild scenes, with fans chanting the words back at the band and dancing and clapping.

An epic ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ closed proceedings, seeing Flowers lift the mic stand above his head whilst guitarist Dave Keuning rolled around on the floor and confetti rained down on the crowd.
