Band cover The Velvet Underground's 'Pale Blue Eyes' at Life Is Beautiful festival


The Killers paid tribute to Lou Reed during their homecoming gig in Las Vegas on Sunday night (October 27).

The band were performing live at Life Is Beautiful festival when Brandon Flowers spoke to the audience and admitted that he was trying to “rip-off” Reed when he wrote The Killers’ single ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’. The band then covered The Velvet Underground’s ‘Pale Blue Eyes’ in memory of the late frontman. Scroll up to watch the performance now.

Lou Reed collaborated with The Killers in 2007 when he contributed vocals to the song ‘Tranquilize’, found on the band’s compilation album ‘Sawdust’. News of the death of the legendary performer emerged late on Sunday with the cause of death confirmed as liver failure yesterday (October 29). The frontman had a liver transplant last May.

Earlier this week, David Bowie and The Strokes paid tribute to Lou Reed alongside Morrissey, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and The Who. Reed’s former bandmate John Cale wrote “The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet… I’ve lost my ‘school-yard buddy'” on his Facebook page.
