Earlier this week, Carl Barat had revealed that he was heading to Thailand to begin work on The Libertines’ third album. Barât tweeted the news that he will meet up with Pete Doherty to begin recording the group’s first album in 11 years and their first since reuniting for a series of sell-out gigs in 2014. Doherty recently confirmed to NME that the band will be recording at Karma Studios in Thailand.

The Libertines plan to release their new album this year. The band released a short video in December that showed them signing a record deal with Virgin/EMI in Thailand in lieu of the release. Barât had previously stated that he was visiting Doherty in Thailand and that the pair had “five new tunes on the workbench”.

Doherty recently left a rehabilitation facility in nearby Chon Buri after completing treatment for his drug addictions.

The Libertines released their last studio LP – 2004’s self-titled second album – through Rough Trade and have played a series of shows since last year’s second reunion including a headline show at London’s Hyde Park and three nights at Alexandra Palace.

The Libertines are also nominated for the NME Awards 2015 with Austin, Texas. Visit our awards page to cast your vote on who you want to win You can also buy tickets for the awards ceremony which takes place at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on 18 February.
