The band debuted two songs 'Hague Blue' and 'The Day I Die'

The National debuted two new songs during their performance at the Welcome To Hamilton benefit. They treated fans to ‘Hague Blue’ and ‘The Day I Die’ which they also performed again the following night at Toronto’s Field Trip festival.

Taking place at Centenary United Church in Hailton, Ontario on Friday (June 3), the Welcome To Hamilton benefit concert was raising money for young Syrian refugees in the city.

During the set, the band opened up with ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’ before embarking on renditions of ‘I Need My Girl’ and ‘Pink Rabbits’. ‘Hague Blue’ and ‘The Day I Die’ were played one after each other.

Last month, The National confirmed that they will start recording their next album “soon”. Frontman Matt Berninger recently stated that the group need to “change and evolve” on their next record. Guitarist Aaron Dessner has now confirmed to Pitchfork that they have assembled a new studio to record in.

“We need a new home because everybody is scattered,” Dessner explained to The Independent. The band’s members are based in New York, Paris and Los Angeles. Dessner added that The National will “do the whole record there, because it’ll just be fun and a good feeling.”

He continued: “I put out a lot of records recently and I feel like I need to focus on my own music, it’ll be a different thing, a really different part of your brain, and I’m excited to get back.” You can see some fan footage of the songs below.
