The troubled star gets set to hit the road with his band The Popes...
Ex-POGUES frontman SHANE MACGOWAN is set to begin an extensive tour of the USA and CANADA with his band THE POPES, it has been revealed.
According to sources in the US the anglo-Irish Celt-punk singer/songwriter will kick off dates in Plainview, New York on March 16. The 23-city tour will also feature two dates in Chicago and San Francisco as well as taking in Montreal, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Seattle, Detroit and Los Angeles.
It will mark MacGowan’s second large-scale US tour of recent times, having completed a club tour during 2000. He and his band will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a show at the Heineken Irish Expo at New York City’s Webster Hall.
Shane MacGowan and the Popes released their third album ‘Holloway Boulevard’ last year. They will record the upcoming tour for a live album slated for release later this year.
MacGowan was kicked out of The Pogues in 1991 after his habitual, and at times almost lethal drinking and drug use left him in an untenable position within the group.
A documentary charting MacGowan’s life, in which he spoke frankly about his ongoing battle against personal demons such as alcoholism, was filmed last year. Though initially due for broadcast on television is now being readied for a cinema release.
Shane MacGowan is currently living in a Dublin hotel.
