Man killed in car accident after attending Bestival

Event organisers describe death as 'a tragic incident'

A man has been killed and a woman injured after attending this weekend’s Bestival event.

The pair were knocked down by a car travelling on Mersley Down Road on the Isle Of Wight in the early hours of yesterday morning (September 12).

They were taken to hospital, where the man later died. The woman’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 33-year-old man from Worthing, West Sussex, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A Bestival spokesperson said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family affected. We are assisting the police with their investigation.”

Part of Mersley Down Road remained closed for several hours before it was reopened yesterday afternoon, reports BBC News.

The three-day event, which attracted over 50,000 people, was closed by The Prodigy on the final night.
