The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards becomes grandfather for fifth time

Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones has become a grandfather for the fifth time.

Richards is now grandfather to a baby boy after his daughter Angela Richards gave birth to Otto Reed yesterday (February 6). Richards’ representative has confirmed with NME that the boy was born at 11:34pm and weighs 7lb, 3oz. His parents, Angela Richards and Graham Whitney, also have a two and half year old daughter, Ava Melody. The guitarist says: “I couldn’t be happier for them.”

Earlier this week Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts said the band are too old to embark on a lengthy touring schedule. Watts spoke ahead of the band’s live shows in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne next month. Discussing the short tours the band have ventured on in recent years, Watts said the prospect of playing a large number of shows was “daunting” at his “tender age.”

The Rolling Stones will perform live in Abu Dhabi on February 21 before heading out on the road across the Far East and Asia to play three shows in Tokyo and a one-off show in Macau. They will then travel to Australia and New Zealand.

Ronnie Wood previously discussed plans for a world tour in 2014. “While the big wheel is rolling we are going to capture it before it stops totally,” he said. Wood added that the band were overwhelmed by the reaction to their 50th anniversary gigs, which included their debut performance at Glastonbury festival. “Everybody had a smile on their face, which was brilliant.”
