The Rolling Stones‘ Ronnie Wood has revealed that he was once kidnapped by his artist friend Damien Hirst and taken to rehab.

Speaking on his Absolute Radio Classic Rock show earlier this week, the Faces man recalled being bundled into a bread van on his way to a drying out clinic at the height of his battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

Wood said:

I’ve blown millions of pounds on booze and drugs in the past, but Damien rescued me. He bundled me into the back of a bread van to avoid the paparazzi and then whisked me away on his private plane. There began my life of recovery. I owe that man a lot.

Meanwhile, Wood joined Toots and the Maytals onstage in London last night (September 9) – scroll down and click below to watch fan footage of the hook-up.

The guitarist appeared with the Jamaican reggae legends during their gig at O2 Academy Brixton as they performed their 1969 track ‘Monkey Man’.

The veteran group, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary on the tour, are due to appear at Bestival today (10), before playing dates in Bristol, Oxford, Cardiff and Aberystwyth next week.
