Mick Jagger speaks publicly about the death of L’Wren Scott

The Rolling Stones' frontman describes "very hard year"

The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger has spoken publicly for the first time about the death of his girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott.

The singer spoke to The Today Show‘s Matt Lauer during a promotional appearance for the James Brown biopic Get On Up, which he co-produced.

“I’m doing OK,” said Jagger. “It was difficult, you know, very hard year, but I got back into it by working on touring with the Stones in Europe, and doing other things, including this great movie.”

Jagger added that he had received “a lot of support” from family and friends.

Born Luann Bambrough, Scott had been in a relationship with Jagger since 2001. She was found dead in a New York apartment on March 17 in an apparent suicide. A spokesman for Jagger at the time said the frontman was “completely shocked and devastated” by the news. Scott died aged 49.

Get On Up will follow the highs and lows of the life and career of James Brown. Chadwick Boseman stars as the Godfather of Soul, while Jagger will be played by Missing star Nick Eversman.

“James Brown … comes from absolutely nothing, from nowhere,” said Jagger. “He has nothing. But he wants to be someone; he wants to be a big star.”
