O’Donoghue, who can currently be seen on the second series of the BBC1 talent show alongside fellow coaches Tom Jones, Jessie J and will.i.am, opened for McCartney during a US tour four years ago. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Irish frontman revealed that he accidentally pressed the wrong button on his keyboard and shamed himself in front of thousands of people.
“We performed at Shea Stadium in New York in 2009, supporting Sir Paul McCartney,” he said. Adding: “I was introducing each band member as they played a solo, and when it came to my turn, I was supposed to play a piano riff on the keyboard but I hit the wrong button and it came out as drums. It sounded rubbish. In front of 50,000 people and a Beatle! That was bad.”
Meanwile, Paul McCartney recently stated that any band comparing themselves to The Beatles is a “kiss of death” as nobody will ever match their achievements as a band. It was also revealed that McCartney has admitted Yoko Ono’s presence in the studio during The Beatles’ recording sessions infuriated the Fab Four.
