The Shins play surprise London show

US chart conquerers perform gig in record store

The Shins celebrated their US chart success with new album ‘Wincing The Night Away’ by playing a surprise London set today (February 1).

The band, whose third LP entered the US Billboard Chart at Number Two earlier this week, played at the Virgin Megastore in the UK capital’s Oxford Street. The crowd was made of those who had queued in the store earlier this week for a wristband which allowed entry.

They watched as the five-piece played a slightly truncated set, abandoning plans to open with ‘Sleeping Lessons’ due to technical problems. But from the new album they did play five songs – ‘Australia’, ‘Pam Berry’, ‘Girl Sailor’, ‘Turn On Me’ and recent single ‘Phantom Limb’.

There was also time for back catalogue classics ‘Girl Inform Me’, ‘Caring Is Creepy’ and ‘So Says I’.

The set was:

‘Australia’

‘Pam Berry’

‘Phantom Limb’

‘Girl Sailor’

‘Girl Inform Me’

‘Caring Is Creepy’

‘So Says I’

‘Turn On Me’

Afterwards the band met fans and signed copies of the new album, released in the UK on Monday (January 29).
