The first book to chronicle the complete recordings of indie legends Smiths will be released in November.

The band voted most influential of all time in NME’s 50th birthday issue earlier this year are the subject of ‘Songs That Saved Your Life’, which takes a detailed everything the band released, and previously unreleased songs, including the rare

‘Matter Of Opinion’, whose discovery by author Simon Goddard was reported by NME.COM earlier this year. .


With a foreword by Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, Goddard’s first book is the most anticipated Smiths document to be published since Johnny Rogan”s infamous ‘The Severed Alliance’ biography in 1992.

In the research for this book, Goddard was granted unprecedented access to Smiths’ studio archives and the private collection of outtakes and rehearsals retained by Joyce.
