Johnny Marr announces Manchester comeback gigs with The Healers

Former Smiths and Cribs guitarist will play two shows next month

Johnny Marr has announced he will play two gigs with his band The Healers in Manchester next month.

The former guitarist with The Smiths, who left The Cribs earlier this year, will play at the city’s Deaf Institute on October 4 and 6.

In a post on his official website,, Marr said ticket details for the hometown shows have yet to be finalised.

He has also not yet revealed who will be playing in The Healers, who he formed in 2000 with ex-Kula Shaker bassist Alonza Bevan, sometime Oasis drummer Zak Starkey and guitarist Lee Spencer.

The band released their debut album, ‘Boomslang’, in 2003 and supported the likes of Oasis and Pearl Jam before playing their final live dates later that year.

In the years since playing with The Healers, Marr has also had a stint as a member of Modest Mouse, appearing on their 2007 album ‘We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank’ and 2009’s ‘No One’s First And You’re Next’.

The guitarist has previously said he is planning to work on solo material and write his autobiography this year. He admitted that he “ended up doing much more than [he] originally set out to” with The Cribs, with whom he completed one album, 2009’s ‘Ignore The Ignorant’.
