The Staves recording new album with Bon Iver

British folk group reveal they are in the studio with Justin Vernon - who they call an 'assclown'

The Staves are recording their new album with Justin Vernon, better known as Bon Iver.

The folk trio, sisters Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley, revealed that they have recruited Vernon via their Twitter account this weekend. A picture of the group with Vernon, who has also worked with Kanye West and released an album with his other band Volcano Choir earlier this year, can be seen above.

Posting the picture online, The Staves wrote: “Very excited to be recording album 2 right now with this assclown.” The Staves released their debut album ‘Dead & Born & Grown’ in 2012, it includes the singles ‘Mexico’ and ‘Winter Trees’. The band have toured with Bon Iver in the past and appeared on stage with Mumford and Sons during their 2013 Glastonbury headline performance.

Earlier this year Bon Iver’s record label Jagjaguwar were forced to refute claims that the band could be ‘over’. Vernon claimed earlier this year that his approach to songwriting had changed since the release of the last Bon Iver LP in 2011, saying: “I don’t really write songs anymore.”

Vernon recently released ‘Repave’, his second album with Volcano Choir, following 2009’s ‘Unmap’ and it was recently reported that Vernon will feature alongside Vampire Weekend and Kurt Vile on a Grateful Dead covers album The National are working on. No tracklisting or release date has been announced yet, but proceeds are set to go to not-for-profit organisation Red Hot, which is focused on raising AIDS-awareness.
