The Stone Roses headline the first night of Portugal’s Optimus Alive festival

Justice and Buraka Som Systema also play Portuguese bash's opening night

The Stone Roses continued their series of reunion dates at Portugal’s Optimus Alive festival last night (July 14), with a headline set on the main stage.

Coming on to The Supremes’ ‘Stoned Love’, the quartet drew a medium-sized crowd as Ian Brown took to the stage wearing a tracksuit top decorated with the Ethiopian colours. He appeared relaxed throughout the slot, with the band performing their increasingly customary festival set complete with an extended version of ‘Fools Gold’.

Justice rounded off the late-night bill on the same stage, playing a 1.30am slot and attracting a huge crowd to their heaving set, while Portuguese dance act Buraka Som Sistema drew perhaps the biggest crowd of the evening, packing out the Heineken stage for their party-starting performance with hundreds of people unable to get into the tent.

Earlier in the day, meanwhile, Dum Dum Girls played the same stage and showcased several tracks from forthcoming EP ‘End Of Daze’, whilst dance act LMFAO also drew a massive audience for their set.

Optimus Alive continues today with a headline set from The Cure. Mumford and Sons, Katy B and The Antlers will all also play, while Morcheeba will replace Florence And The Machine, after Florence Welch and co were forced to cancel their scheduled appearance.
