Granada is to showcase Northern acts...

A NEW TV show focusing exclusively on music from the North West hits British screens next week.

THIS IS MUSIC, a six-parter from Granada, showcases the region’s best up-and-coming acts and features bands including Manchester’sAlfie and Liverpool’s THE CRESCENT.

Quirky Wirral newcomers Coral are also lined up for an appearance along with THE ALPINE STARS, Chorley’s FI-LO RADIO and Manchester’s CRAZY PENIS.


Manchester-based DJ ELLIOT EASTWICK makes his presenting debut on the ITV1 show which debuts on Wednesday July 3 at 10.50pm.

The programme also raids the Granada archives for footage of seminal performances by local legends THE STONE ROSES, Happy Mondays, BuzzcocksandCast.

The first show features Liverpool legend JOHN POWER’S television debut as a solo artist. The former LA’S and [a][/a] member performs new song Small Farm. He is joined by Alfie and SUPERSTRING who also play specially-recorded sets at Granada’s Quay Street studios.

The series includes footage of gigs by unsigned acts recorded at regional live venues including Wigan band MOCO – described as The Strokes fronted by a Jarvis Cocker/Iggy Pop hybrid – and Manchester’s PEDAL, a hip-hop influenced collective.
