The Strokes play first festival show of 2011 at SXSW

Julian Casablancas and co bring 'Angles' to Austin

The Strokes played their first festival show of 2011 last night (March 17), at Austin‘s South By Southwest event.

The band played a free show on Auditorium Shores Stage at Lady Bird Lake at the Austin bash.

Predictably, thousands of fans flocked to the show, with security guards eventually closing off entrances as the gig area reached its capacity. Translators stood at the front of the stage translating the lyrics to sign language to help out hearing impaired gig-goers.

The band played songs from new album ‘Angles’ as well as older hits ‘The Modern Age’, ‘You Only Live Once’, ‘Reptilia’ and set-closer ‘Last Nite’.

A volley of fireworks was let off as they closed the show.

Jack White had made an appearance at the festival the previous day, playing a short live solo set.

The Strokes played:

‘What Ever Happened’
‘The Modern Age
‘You Only Live Once’
‘Under Cover Of Darkness’
‘New York City Cops’
‘You’re So Right’
‘Under Control’
‘Life Is Simple In The Moonlight’
‘I Can’t Win’
‘Taken For A Fool’
‘Take It Or Leave It’
‘Hard To Explain’
‘Last Nite’
