SKATER BOY!

Albert Hammond Jr’s dad has spilt the beans…

THE STROKES’ ALBERT HAMMOND JR’s dark secret has been revealed by his father.

Promoting his new album and a biography, Albert Hammond Snr has revealed in a joint interview with his son, that before music, the guitarist was a championship winning roller skater.

“It’s weird it hasn’t come out sooner,” Hammond Jr told the Guardian after his secret appeared in his father’s book. “The weird thing is, I used to skate in front of, like, 5,000 people and I was never nervous, but the first time I got on stage, there were four people there and I vomited.”

Hammond Snr, who gave up performing music to concentrate on writing and producing when his son was born, is releasing his first record in 23 years, titled ‘Revolution Of The Heart’.

However despite not seeing his father onstage, The Strokes guitarist explained that his dad’s profession was a big influence on his career – something Hammond Snr says he’s approved of right from the beginning.

“He called me from university and said he had to choose between school and the band,” Hammond Snr recalled of the The Strokes’ early days, “and I said, ‘The choice is made, it’s the band.'”
