Show will take place before band's appearance at Primavera Sound
The Strokes have been announced as the headliners for Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, USA this year, on a bill that also includes Pixies, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Tame Impala and James Blake.
The festival takes place between May 8 and 10 at Atlanta’s Central Park. Other acts performing include Wilco, Ryan Adams, Milk Hotel, Death From Above 1979, TV on the Radio, Best Coast, Interpol and Mac DeMarco.
The Strokes already have one confirmed live date in their calendar for 2015, a headline set at Spanish festival Primavera in May.
Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas previously told NME that the band would record new music in 2015 “if the vibe is right”. “I think you have good work chemistry if you are just honest with each other and you just wanna do something good, and you just wanna put in all your magic, and create something cool with other people’s magic, with friends,” Casablancas added. “I think ‘the vibe’ in the recent past was lost, but I think we learned how to work together better. More professionally. But now I think we’re looking to combine those things.”
He continued: “We’ve hung out even non-musically, and I think we’ve turned a page. I think we have some magic left. But creatively, there’s magic in many different places for me right now.”
Casablancas was joined on-stage by Dev Hynes in New York recently for a rendition of The Strokes’ track ‘You Only Live Once’. The singer was performing with current band The Voidz at the Hammerstein Ballroom when Hynes, who currently records under the guise Blood Orange, emerged to sing lead vocals on the song, which first appeared on The Strokes’ 2006 album ‘First Impressions Of Earth’.
