Members of THE STROKES, BECK and MOS DEF are amongst the judges of this year’s ‘SHORTLIST MUSIC PROJECT’, the American award based on the ‘MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE’.

[/a] were the winners of the inaugural Shortlist Music Prize last year (November 19) at the Knitting Factory nightclub in Los Angeles, for their record ‘Agaetis Byrjun’.

The award is designed to mirror the UK’s Mercury Music Prize and was founded to recognise the most creative albums of the year, focusing on emerging artists rather than established hitmakers

This year, the ceremony will take place at the same venue on October 29. The shortlist will be selected by the likes of Beck and Mos Def, who were judges last year. Also, according to Billboard, other judges this year will include [a]’s Kim Gordon, Metallica star Lars Ulrich, The Strokes‘ Albert Hammond Jr and Nick Valensi, the Neptunes and film directors Baz Lurhmann and Spike Jonze.
