THE STROKES have spoken exclusively to NME.COM about their newly recorded album and next month’s UK tour.
The hotly tipped New York band spoke to NME.COM as they were finishing recording their debut album. NME.COM can reveal that the album, due in August through Rough Trade, is set to be titled ‘Is This It’.
The 11-track album includes the songs ‘New York City Cops’, ‘Hard To Explain’, ‘Trying Your Luck’, ‘Some Day’, ‘Soma’, ‘Is This It’, ‘Last Nite’, ‘Barely Legal’, ‘The Modern Age’, ‘Alone Together’ and ‘Take It Or Leave It’.
Told that the some UK dates had sold out almost immediately, singer Julian Casablancas said: “Really? That’s fucking crazy, that’s really crazy.”
Asked why he thought the UK had fallen for The Strokes, he added: “I don’t want to sound like a cocky bastard but we are young and good looking and the music is good.”
Drummer Fabrizio Moretti added: “In Britain, people are much more responsive. You guys are willing to listen to new things. I’m so psyched to be going back, every show we played people were enjoying it. There’s a lot of people here in America who think we’ve had it too easy, but they have never really heard the music. I’d love to live in London, but New York is our home.”
Talking about the recording of ‘Is This It’, Casablancas said: “It’s all pretty much done. We go this bar called 2A by the studio every night, get free drinks, sleep it off then start work in the studio. Yesterday we walked out the studio and the sun was up, people were going to work. That has been our ritual, then we sleep through most of the day.”
