The Strokes’ Nick Valensi starts new band

The guitarist has formed a new five-piece, CRX

The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi has started a new band.

Valensi had been the only member of the New York City band not to have embarked on a side project away from The Strokes, but he has now launched his own venture in the form of new band CRX.

Comprising of five musicians – including Valensi on guitar – the line-up is completed by The Dose drummer Ralph Alexander, Guards and Willowz guitarist Richie James Follin, LA musician Darian Zahedi, and The Reflections member Jon Safley.

The new band launched their career yesterday (August 1) by establishing a strong online presence, with the band’s colourful logo serving as their first tweet, before they then realised their first press shot together. See those two tweets below.

No music from CRX has yet to surface, however.

The birth of CRX comes shortly after Valensi’s involvement in The Strokes’ surprise-release ‘Future Present Past’ EP, which was released on June 3. The iconic band performed the EP’s second single, ‘Threat of Joy’, on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live just last week (July 26). Watch that performance below.
