News was revealed with banner in Barcelona
It has been confirmed that The Strokes are to headline the 15th anniversary Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona next year, following the unveiling of a banner featuring The Strokes‘ logo on Passeig del Born in the Catalan city.
As night fell, ultraviolet light revealed that the banner was related to Primavera Sound.
As pointed out by fan site The Strokes News, a similar stunt was pulled with Arcade Fire a year ago and the group were later confirmed as a headlining act for Primavera Sound 2014.
Speaking in September, frontman Julian Casablancas appeared to throw cold water on the possibility of any further live shows with The Strokes, describing touring as “a great way to destroy a band”.
Speaking to GQ recently, Casablancas also opened up about performing with the New York group over the summer 2014, the band’s first live shows since 2011. He said: “[It] was cool and we played some shows and the vibe is finally… I don’t know if we ever had that good a working friendship foundation [in our] work relationship, but now we finally have that. We’ll always have the creative vibe.”
