A host of acts join in a 20th anniversary celebration of the release of the group's first single...

Ed Harcourt and Nada Surf are among the acts who have covered Smiths songs to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary group’s first release.

The tracks will be aired on a BBC 6 Music special which airs from May 12-16. Smiths released their debut single ‘Hand In Glove’ on May 13 1983.

The Thrills have covered ‘Last Night I dreamt Somebody Loved Me’, Ed Harcourt tackles ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’ while Nada Surf have a go at ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’.
