The Vaccines’ Justin Young writing ‘really exciting’ songs with One Direction

Justin Young opens about his time in the studio with the teen pop band

Justin Young of The Vaccines has revealed that he has written a batch of “awesome” songs with pop group One Direction.

The collaboration was first revealed via Niall Horan of the teen boyband, who posted a tweet from the studio when Young joined them in February.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat about his work with the group, The Vaccines frontman was enthusiastic about the “awesome” songs they had made together, saying he has always loved pop music. “It was a really interesting creative process, writing with pretty much the biggest pop band on the planet,” he said. Adding: “It was a very different world and very different process – that was one of the reasons I wanted to do it. I really enjoyed it.”

“I felt like I took so much from doing it. I’ve always said I love pop music and how much I want to write pop music. It’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like that. They do indeed contribute.”

As well as working with One Direction, Justin Young also performed a collaboration with Johnny Marr and Ronnie Wood at the NME Awards on Wednesday night (February 27). The frontman got up on stage with the iconic guitarists to perform a cover of ‘I Fought The Law’, a Sonny Curtis song famously covered by The Clash in 1979.
