The Verve cap reunion with number one album

Katy Perry remains top of single countdown

The Verve have gone straight to the top of the UK album charts today (August 31) with their first release in more than 10 years.

‘Forth’ sees off Irish band The Script whose self-titled debut peaked at one last week. Slipknot slide in at two on the album chart with ‘All Hope Is Gone’.

‘Forth’ sold 72,768 copies in its first week, compared to the band’s 1997 number one ‘Urban Hymns’, which sold 250,054 copies in its first seven days on sale.

Meanwhile, on the single countdown there is some jockeying for position on the top 10. Katy Perry‘s ‘I Kissed A Girl’ remains immovable at one, Eric Prydz scores the highest new entry at two with ‘Pjanoo’ while Biffy Clyro shift up from 10 to five with ‘Mountains’.

Fellow Scots Glasvegas just miss out on what would have been their first top 10 place as ‘Daddy’s Gone’ enters at 12.

Back on the album chart there are also entries on the top 10 for the late Eva Cassidy whose ‘Somewhere’ goes in at four while Michael Jackson marks hitting 50 with a new entry at number five with ‘King Of Pop’.

However, there will be no celebration for another veteran this week. Shaggy limps in at 22 with the hits laden ‘Best Of – The Boombastic Collection’.
