THE VERVE are to headline the inaugural concert of a new festival fixture set to be an annual event at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland.
The picturesque site is the home of Irish peer Lord Henry Mount Charles and in the past its grounds have hosted major outdoor concerts by the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.
Lord Henry has obtained permission to hold one concert per year for the next five inside the stately home’s grounds. The Verve gig is set for August 29 but the rest of this year’s line-up has not yet been announced.
In the meantime, the band are following up the success of their acclaimed hometown concert at Haigh Hall in Wigan on May 24 with a string of headlining concerts and appearances on the European festival circuit.
They’ll be appearing at Circus Krone, Munich, Germany (June 6), Phillipshalle, Dusseldorf, Germany (7), Sporthalle, Hamburg, Germany (9), Arena, Berlin, Germany (10), Hultsfeld Festival, Sweden (12), Imola Festival, Italy (21), Roskilde Festival, Denmark (27), Torhout Festival, Belgium (July 4), Werchter Festival, Belgium (5), Doctor Music Festival, Spain (10) and Slane Castle Festival, Dublin, Ireland (August 29).
In July and August, The Verve shift their touring attention to the USA and Canada. The band’s UK publicists are awaiting confirmation of dates and venues but say the band will play arenas in Chicago, Detroit, Hamilton, Montreal, Boston, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
