THE VERVE are to play New York’s prestigious Madison Square Garden in August.
The concert is part of the band’s 12-date US tour on which they will be supported by Massive Attack. Madison Square Garden has a capacity of 22,000. When Radiohead appeared in New York two weeks ago they played two nights at Radio City, which has a capacity of 6,000.
The Spice Girls are scheduled to play Madison Square Garden later this year. The venue was built in the ’60s and has played host to a host of music’s biggest stars throughout the decades.
The Verve’s album ‘Urban Hymns’ has just been certified platinum in America with sales of over one million copies. The band’s US tour takes in shows in Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Verve and their management are still deciding on the supporting acts for the band’s Haigh Hall show in Wigan on Sunday, May 24.
