The Vines wow Sheffield as UK tour begins...

THE VINES kicked off their GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL warm up tour in SHEFFIELD last night – and debuted two new songs.

It was the first time the songs had been played in the UK and for one of them, ‘Autumn Shade Part Two’, it was the first time lead singer Craig Nicholls had ever played solo acoustic live on stage. The other new song debuted at the city’s Leadmill was ‘Fuck The World’.

Intriguingly, many in the crowd seemed to know all the words to tracks from the band’s forthcoming ‘Highly Evolved’ debut album – despite the fact it isn’t released until July 8. The band also did a version of Outkast’s ‘Miss Jackson’, which has now become a live favourite.

The full set list was:

‘Autumn Shade’

‘Highly Evolved’

‘Ain’t No Room’

‘Mary Jane’

‘In The Jungle’

‘Country Yard’

‘Miss Jackson’

‘Get Free’

‘Autumn Shade Part Two’

‘Fuck The World’

The tour continues tonight (June 23) at Manchester Uni before continuing tomorrow at Glasgow King Tuts (24) and then goes on to Liverpool Stanley Theatre (26) and Leeds Cockpit. The band then play Glastonbury Festival on The Other Stage on June 29.
