Watch the video for The Weeknd’s new single ‘Starboy’, featuring Daft Punk

The video sees Abel Tesfaye murder his old persona to emphatically launch the new stage of his music career

The Weeknd has shared the video for his new single ‘Starboy’, which features a brief rare appearance from Daft Punk.

The Canadian artist, real name Abel Tesfaye, surprisingly announced that his new album, ‘Starboy’, would be dropping on November 25, arriving just over a year since the release of his acclaimed second studio album, ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’.

The Weeknd has also noticeably changed his persona with the introduction of ‘Starboy’, which was first revealed with the album’s artwork last week. This change in appearance is a motif that The Weeknd has drawn on for the video for the album’s title track, which depicts a masked Tesfaye killing his former persona while he is gagged and tied to a dining chair.

The new ‘Starboy’ then goes on a rampage in Tesfaye’s apartment, smashing wall fixtures and burning the contents of his wardrobe. Daft Punk, who co-wrote the song, make a brief cameo as a portrait on the wall.

The video was nominated yesterday for Best Video at the upcoming MTV EMAs, despite not having actually been officially released.
