The White Stripes heading for Number One?

'Icky Thump' currently at top spot in midweeks

The White Stripes are currently at Number One in the midweek singles chart with ’Icky Thump’.

As of today (June 13), the band are selling only a thousand copies more than Rihanna, who is currently a Number One with ’Umbrella’. The track has been a Number One for four weeks.

The seven-inch version of the ’Icky Thump’ single was pressed onto white vinyl and featured a unique etching on the flipside.

With the space left in the packaging, it can be combined with the seven inch of ’Rag And Bone’ that was given away exclusively free with NME last week, to created a unique collector’s edition.

The album ‘Icky Thump’ is out on Monday (June 18).

Meanwhile the band made their return to the UK, playing two gigs yesterday (June 12).

The band performed an acoustic gig for Chelsea Pensioners in the afternoon, before playing an intimate electric at the Rivoli Ballroom.

They will headline the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park tomorrow evening (June 14) and NME.COM will bring you a full report from the show.
