The White Stripes go football mad

It's Seven Nation barmy

World Cup football player Francesco Totti has made The White Stripes the biggest band in Italy.

The unmistakable riff to ’Seven Nation Army’ has been adopted by Italian football fans.

Players from the squad, led by Francesco Totti, started singing the refrain following the country’s World Cup victory on Sunday night (July 9).

During the night of celebrations, the popularity of the tune caught on.

A source close to the band said: “There were 500,000 people singing (the riff) in the streets. It’s become Italy’s second national anthem.”

There are currently no plans to re-release the single.
