Jack White shocks regulars with a varied set of covers...
White Stripes’ JACK WHITE played an impromptu set at a LONDON kebab restaurant last night (June 13).
The singer had gone to the Chalk Farm Marathon Bar after going to see fellow Detroit band and friends of The White Stripes, Brendan Benson And The Well Fed Boys at the nearby Camden Monarch.
After the gig, Jack and Meg White accompanied Brendan and the rest of the band to the Marathon for a post-gig party in the restaurant’s back room.
At about midnight, half way through a set by Camden based rock and roll guitarist Daniel John Ranaud, Jack asked if he could borrow his guitar.
He then played four songs including a cover of The Swinging Blue Jeans’ ‘The Hippy Hippy Shake’ as Meg and Brendan looked on. It’s thought another track may have been an Elvis cover and he also played a slow ballad “for the ladies”.
