White Stripes give something back to their hometown of Detroit by playing bargain basement gig...

THE WHITE STRIPES are to play two unusual gigs at their local museum – with tickets costing just $1 for Detroit students.

Jack and Meg have been booked to appear twice at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Friday November 2, as part of the gallery’s ‘First Fridays’ showcase programme.

An early set will be staged at 6.30pm and a second show will take place at 8pm. Between performances, artist workshops and guided tours will be available to visitors.

Ticket prices for each show have been set at $5 for adults and $1 for students – or free, with general museum admission.

A week later, the Stripes will embark on their biggest European tour to date.
