Jack White plays White Stripes material at surprise SXSW show

Raconteurs and Dead Weather man plays Third Man Records event

Jack White played a surprise show at Austin‘s South By Southwest festival this afternoon (March 16).

He played a short solo gig at the Third Man Rolling Record Store, which had been set up in front of the Texas city’s Frank’s Diner venue.

White was introduced as “Third Man recording artist, Jack White!” to which he replied: “So I’m a Third Man artist now?”

He then played Buddy Holly‘s classic ‘Not Fade Away’ and The White Stripes‘Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground’ to a crowd including The KillsJamie Hince and Alison Mosshart.

Seasick Steve played after White‘s short set, having just signed a one-record deal with Third Man. “He signed the desk in my office in black marker pen by way of a contract,” White explained.

The Third Man Rolling Record Store opened for business after the performances.

Foo Fighters played a surprise show at the festival last night.
