Tabloid reports suggest The Who will be confirmed as third Glastonbury headliner

The Sun suggests band will play Sunday of the festival alongside Noel Gallagher or Paul Weller

Tabloid reports today (May 2) suggest that The Who will be announced as the third, and final, of this year’s Glastonbury headliners.

Speculation about the third headline act for this year’s festival has increased in recent weeks with the name yet to be announced. It was previously announced that Foo Fighters and Kanye West will headline the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival respectively.

However, The Sun has today reported that it will be The Who that close this year’s festival and that they will be joined on the line-up by either Noel Gallagher or Paul Weller performing in the slot directly before them.

A “festival insider” is reported to have told the newspaper that: “The Who booking has been kept quiet because the band are also playing a Hyde Park gig for the British Summer Time festival so the announcement will be made in a few weeks. The band are still one of the best live groups and are currently on their 50th-anniversary tour, so it’s bound to be an amazing show.”

“There’ll also be support from an artist like Paul Weller or Noel Gallagher. It will be a dream night for rock fans.”

NME has approached Glastonbury for comment but has received no reply at the time of writing. The original report correctly asserts that The Who are booked to play a gig in Paris on the Sunday night of the Glastonbury weekend (June 28) but that they will look to rearrange that show.

Speculation about the identity of the third Glastonbury headliner increased recently when festival organiser Michael Eavis hinted that the identity of the final Glastonbury headliner would be revealed on June 1, and implying that the headliner for the Sunday leg would be composed of two artists, rather than one. He also added that they will “most likely” be British and that Coldplay‘s Chris Martin may be involved.

Acts to play the festival, which will run from June 24-28 at Worthy Farm, include Florence + The Machine, Jamie T, Alt-J, Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Jungle, The Chemical Brothers, Suede, The Vaccines, The Maccabees, Motorhead, Alabama Shakes, Paloma Faith, Mark Ronson, Run The Jewels, Future Islands, The Fall, Pharrell Williams, Franz Ferdinand & Sparks, La Roux, Fat White Family and Kate Tempest.

Wolf Alice, Belle & Sebastian, Clean Bandit, Young Fathers, Peace, Enter Shikari, Spiritualized, Hot Chip, The Waterboys, FKA Twigs, Caribou, Ben Howard, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Mavis Staples, George Ezra, Courtney Barnett, Death Cab For Cutie, Father John Misty and Sharon Van Etten will also appear. Glastonbury 2015 will run from June 24-28 at its traditional home of Worthy Farm, Somerset.
