TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF MOD

The mod legends blaze a trail of nostalgia round the UK...

THE WHO today (July 21) announced the dates for the UK leg of their GREATEST HITS tour, with support on all nights coming from JOE STRUMMER AND THE MESCELAROS.

The seven dates kick off in Manchester on November 2 and take in Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle, Sheffield and London. The three surviving members of The Who, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle will be joined by Ringo Starr‘s son Zak Starkey on drums and John Rabbit Bundrick on keyboards.

The shows will mark the first UK appearance of the mod |berlords since two surprise London shows at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire last December.

The reformed band recently road tested their set during a brief jaunt around the US. Both audiences and critics gave the shows a unanimous thumbs up. The band worked through classics such as ‘My Generation’, ‘Substitute’, ‘Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere’ and ‘Pinball Wizard’ and Pete Townshend closed the tour at the Jones Beach Theatre, New York by smashing his guitar in time-honoured fashion.

Former Clash man Strummer, a life long fan of the The Who, is said to have reorganised his schedule in order to join the tour as support.

The dates are as follows: Manchester Evening News Arena (November 2) Glasgow S.E.C.C (3) Newcastle Telewest Arena (6) Birmingham NEC (8) Sheffield Arena (10) London Arena (13) Wembley Arena (15)
