The Wombats announce details of new album ‘Glitterbug’

The follow up to 2011 album 'This Modern Glitch' will be released in April

The Wombats will release new album ‘Glitterbug’ on April 6.

The follow up to their 2011’s ‘This Modern Glitch’ will be released next year on 14th Floor/Warner Bros.

Produced by Mark Crew (Bastille) and the band themselves – frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis – the album’s themes were inspired by core songwriter Murphy’s experiences in Los Angeles.

Murphy explained in a statement that he had been drawn to the city’s mix of “opulence and anxiety” and his songwriting for the album focused upon the idea of writing about a tempestuous relationship with a fictional woman from Los Angeles.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, the singer added: “As time progressed, I’d go to LA more and more, and the idea kept on building. The album’s about the envy and the struggle and the pretence and the worry and the fear that LA – and every major city in the world – encompasses.”

‘Glitterbug’ also features the song ‘Your Body Is A Weapon’, which was originally released as a free download for fans in October 2013. Other songs set to be included on the album include ‘Give Me A Try’, ‘Greek Tragedy’, ‘Emoticons’, ‘Be Your Shadow’ and ‘This Is Not A Party’.

The band will tour in support of the album in April, playing nine dates. The journey begins on April 8th at Bristol’s O2 Academy and runs until April 19th when the band headline Newcastle’s O2 Academy. The run of shows also includes dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, London, Oxford, Glasgow and Liverpool.
