The xx and Wild Beasts share the stage in pre-Mercury Prize live showdown

iTunes Live London showcases two bands expected to be on next week's shortlist (July 20)

iTunes Live London staged a Barclaycard Mercury Prize face-off in London tonight (July 12), as both The xx and Wild Beasts shared the bill at the Roundhouse.

Both acts are expected to be on the shortlist for the music accolade, announced on July 20.

Wild Beasts opened proceedings with a set drawn from their two albums, before The xx followed, taking the stage to an extended version of ‘Intro’ before playing a selection of tracks from their debut album.

“How’s it’s going Roundhouse?” bassist Oliver Sim asked the crowd midway through the show. “I can’t tell you how nice it is to be back home, plus last time we were here we were in the basement so things are looking up!”

Later the band included their now regular cover of Kyla‘s ‘Do You Mind’, although not all the audience were familiar with the original.

“Do we have any funky house fans in the audience?” Sim asked, to little response. “No, not really. Well this next song is a cover.”

After playing an epic version of ‘Infinity’, the band briefly left the stage, but returned to thank Wild Beasts and round off the night with ‘Stars’, accompanied by a volley of confetti.

The xx played:

‘Heart Skipped A Beat’
‘Do You Mind’
‘Basic Space’
‘Night Time’
