The xx’s debut album to be turned into sculpture

New art project set to go on view in London

The xx‘s self-titled debut album is set to be turned into a 3D “physical interpretation” by artist Saam Farahmand and go on view in London.

The project, which will see Farahmand projecting sound and light from three different “visual units”, will go on display at The Vinyl Factory from January 8 to 12.

The three “visual units” are meant to represent each member of the London band.

“Music videos are a 2D visual interpretation of a song,” Farahmand said. “We are interested in creating spaces that exist as a 3D physical interpretation of a song or an album, and that is what we have created for the album.

“It shares sensibilities with art installations but it should not be considered in this context – it is in essence a physical music video, a looping shrine to the album that you cannot compress, send or turn off.”
