Thom Yorke announces new classical composition and London show

"I’ll be there pretending I can read the music on the paper. Which I can’t."

Thom Yorke has announced details of a new classical composition, along with new shows to perform it in London and France.

The Radiohead frontman, who recently penned the haunting soundtrack to horror remake Suspiria, has told fans that he has now written a piece for French piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque called ‘Don’t Fear The Light’, and will perform it with the pair at a trio of upcoming shows.

“Good afternoon,” wrote Yorke on Twitter. “I have written some new music for two pianos for Katia & Marielle Labeque. It will be performed in April, I’ll be there pretending I can read the music on the paper. Which I can’t.”

Yorke has also been working on a “politically-charged” new solo album.

“I didn’t have the wish to make politically charged music, but everything I do goes that way anyways”, said Yorke last year. “I’m trying to finish a record with Nigel [Godrich] and it’s going that way. It’s something that’s always there.”

He continued: “It’s very electronic, but different to anything I’ve done till now. The method has been the opposite of depending on computers. It’s a weird process by which we made a song in the studio, we break it after that, we rebuild it with a live mix and it comes out different again, and that’s what we record.

“We’ve improvised with a lot of sounds and effects. It has been a very weird way to make a record, which is very exciting.” Asked whether he’s gotten bored of computers, Yorke replied: “I always get bored.”
