Listen as Charlatans singer Tim Burgess releases album with Peter Gordon

New York composer Gordon has worked with Suzanne Vega and Arthur Russell

The Charlatans singer Tim Burgess is releasing a joint album with New York experimental composer Peter Gordon.

Gordon has worked with Suzanne Vega, Laurie Anderson and Arthur Russell, as well releasing over 10 solo albums including ‘Star Jaws’ in 1978 and ‘Love Of Life Orchestra: Quartet’ in 1995.

Burgess and Gordon met in 2012 and have been working intermittently on their album since then. Out on September 2, ‘Same Language, Different Worlds’ is produced by Gordon. Guests include Modern Lovers bassist Ernie Brooks, Nik Void of Factory Floor and Arthur Russell collaborators Mustfa Ahmed on congas and Peter Zummo on trombone.

A tour has been announced, which includes a show at Festival No 6. Burgess said: “What I love about working with Peter is that, in the late 70s with Peter Zummo, Arthur Russell and all the New York cats as The Kitchen, they were all making futuristic records. Now, Peter is in his mid-sixties and is still looking to do that. It’s the world that I want to be in.”

Burgess releases his new book ‘Tim Book Two’ on July 21 about his love of record collecting. It follows his 2012 memoir ‘Telling Stories’.

The Charlatans, who released the album ‘Modern Nature’ in 2015, play at Kendal Calling, Sportbeat and Electric Fields festivals.

The tracklisting of ‘Same Language Different Worlds’ is:
‘Begin’
‘Say’
‘Around’
‘Unguarded’
‘Ocean Terminus’
‘Temperature High’
‘Like I Already Do’
‘Tracks Of My Past’
‘Oh Men’

Tim Burgess And Peter Gordon will play at:
Birmingham Hare And Hounds (September 1)
Manchester Gorilla (2)
Festival No 6 (3)
Leeds Brudenell Social Club (4)
London Kamio (6)
